More Than Just Football

The Bucs traded helmets for hard hats this week, and honestly, it might be their best formation yet. Instead of running routes, players were running lumber, painting walls, and helping Habitat for Humanity build homes for families who thought owning a place in Florida was about as realistic as $800 rent in 2025.

The Glazer family matched donations, turning sweat, sponsorship money, and elbow grease into real front doors and house keys. One new homeowner, a die-hard Bucs fan, went from watching his team on TV to building alongside them on the very house he’ll move into. That’s not just a feel-good moment, that’s franchise-player energy.

In a year where housing prices feel like they belong in the NFL salary cap column, seeing big-name athletes show up in our own backyard to help regular families plant roots hits different. Turns out the Bucs aren’t just protecting quarterbacks on Sundays; they’re helping protect families from getting blitzed by the housing market too.

Where’s The Beef in Brandon?

Beef in Brandon is starting to feel like a luxury item, somewhere between concert tickets and a mortgage payment. Ranchers are dealing with smaller herds and higher costs, demand hasn’t cooled off, and all of that trickles down to your ribeye, your burger, and that “just a little” extra steak you throw in the cart.

Local restaurants and meat markets are doing what they can to soak up some of the hit, but at some point the math stops mathing and prices creep up on the menu and in the meat case. So if your favorite spot charges a bit more for that burger, it’s not greed, it’s cows on the endangered wallet list. For now, it might be time to show a little love to chicken and pork, stretch those plates with extra sides, and treat beef like the main character it apparently thinks it is.
