In our continual effort to improve ourselves, Hillsborough County is shifting lanes along a stretch of the road so crews can get underground and handle some much-needed water and sewer upgrades. That means traffic patterns you’ve memorized are about to play musical chairs for a bit.
The work will happen along South Kings Avenue between Brandon Boulevard and Parsons Avenue, and while the county hasn’t given a dramatic countdown clock, signs are already going up. Expect lane shifts, reduced speeds, and occasional detours, especially during off-peak hours. Translation: if this is part of your school run, Starbucks run, or “I’m late again” commute, plan for a few extra minutes and maybe an extra sip of patience.

The U.S. Mint has officially called it quits on making pennies, ending more than two centuries of production because each one now costs nearly 4 cents to make. For local stores here in the Brandon area that still deal in cash, this isn’t just historic, it’s potential chaos at the register. Some businesses already aren’t getting enough pennies for change, so they’re being forced to round prices to the nearest nickel until the industry sorts out how to handle it.
