Next Up: Hurricane Party For Four

Hillsborough’s used to being the middle kid at the family table. We’re loved, sure, but when it’s time to pass the funding, the bowl gets a little light by the time it reaches the outskirts of the county.

The latest pot on the stove: a $1.3 million federal grant from Homeland Security aimed at beefing up Bay Area infrastructure and recovery planning. Tampa’s wearing the captain’s hat, with Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Hernando on the roster to build a regional game plan.

It’s a solid start, but the math is what it is. Split that money among one city and three counties, and the slice gets thin. We’ll see where the projects land and how much of it touches our side of the map.

For now, file it under “promising, to be determined.” We’ll keep watch and let you know when dollars turn into actual drainage fixes, power grid upgrades, or anything that keeps the storm prep list a little shorter next season.
