Don’t Just Park There

🚗 If Your Garage is More “Storage Unit” Than Parking Spot… We’ve Got You Covered
We’ve all been there. You open the garage door with the best of intentions, maybe today’s the day you finally park your car inside again. Then you see the mountain of bins, bikes, broken tools, and boxes labeled “Christmas stuff???” and quietly back away like you just spotted a raccoon.
The truth is, most garages in Brandon are doing double duty as junk drawers for the house. But clutter isn’t just annoying, it can be dangerous. Items stacked too high can fall, liquids like paint or gas can be fire hazards, and let’s be honest, tripping over a rusty rake is not a rite of passage.
That’s where Square One Garage Solutions comes in.
They specialize in turning your garage into a clean, functional, dare we say—beautiful—space. Think custom shelving, overhead storage, epoxy floors, and wall systems that make you feel like you’re walking into a showroom instead of a storage war.
They’re not some corporate chain with an 800 number and hold music from 2002. They’re locally owned, right here in our community. They live here, spend here, and support here—so when they say they care about your home, they mean it.
Best of all? Square One offers free 3D design consultations and estimates. So you can see exactly how your space will look before lifting a single dusty box.

Because let’s face it, your garage deserves better. And so do your shins.
Ground Breaking

This isn’t groundbreaking news… but it’s definitely news about ground being broken. Several new restaurants are headed our way, and let’s be honest, that’s always worth a mention.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Brandon and FishHawk:
– 🌯 Chipotle (FishHawk Blvd): The old FishHawk Modern building is being reborn as burrito heaven. Construction is already underway, so start mentally preparing your order: “Yes, guac. I know it’s extra.”
– 🥪 Danny’s Deli (FishHawk Blvd): Plans are in for a new deli near FishHawk Bagels. Because clearly the only thing better than breakfast carbs is lunch carbs.
– 🍷 Boulevard Supper Club (FishHawk): Taking over the old Fishhawk Pizza spot. Word is there’ll be a patio, bar, and grown-up vibe. Translation: pizza rolls not included.
We’ll keep you posted as these spots get closer to opening, because nothing gets this town buzzing like a new place to eat.

Post-Hurricane Progress

Big news from Tallahassee: Governor Ron DeSantis just signed a new law that changes the rules for post-hurricane recovery, and let’s just say, it puts local governments on the sidelines.
The law (SB 180) takes immediate effect and says that if a hurricane hits our area and we’re under a federal disaster declaration, cities and counties can’t block or delay rebuilding efforts for a full year. That means no new zoning restrictions, no construction moratoriums, no last-minute “you can’t do that here” from the local planning office.
Here’s the breakdown:
– 🛠️ You rebuild, they step aside. Local governments can’t impose new restrictions within 100 miles of a storm’s path for a full year.
– 💵 Permit and inspection fees? Frozen for 180 days after the emergency.
– 🧱 Old homes = old rules. You won’t be forced to upgrade everything to current code just to make basic repairs.
– 🏗️ Crane safety is now law. Contractors must secure cranes 24 hours before a storm hits. (Because nobody wants a surprise visit from a flying tower.)
– ⚖️ Local overreach? Sue away. Homeowners and businesses can challenge any local rules that slow them down—and if you win, the city pays your legal fees.
– 📋 Recovery guides required. Local governments must publish clear disaster response plans, designate emergency contacts, and streamline post-storm permits.
Supporters say: This is about cutting the red tape so people can rebuild faster and safer. When your roof’s in the pool and the power’s been out for a week, no one wants to hear “we’re still reviewing your permit.”
Critics argue: It strips local governments of control and could lead to short-sighted rebuilding. Some say it opens the door for developments that ignore resilience or community planning.
What it means for Brandon:
In a major storm, this law gives homeowners and businesses more freedom to bounce back quickly. But it also takes some decision-making out of local hands, which could be a blessing or a headache, depending on who you ask.
One thing’s clear: the rules of recovery just changed. So next time a storm rolls through, don’t be surprised if the paperwork hurricane is a little less intense.
