Commercial Squatters, Your Free Trial Has Ended

Starting July 1, if someone’s squatting in your commercial property, you don’t need a courtroom—you just need the sheriff. Thanks to a new law, property owners can now have unauthorized occupants removed immediately without all the legal slow dancing.
Honestly, we’re a little shocked this wasn’t already a thing. Why was it easier to evict a ghost than a person running a pop-up vape shop in your storefront?
You still have to file a formal complaint (under penalty of perjury), and if the sheriff confirms ownership, they can roll out and clear the space. If the squatter was wrongly removed, they can sue—but as long as you’re legit, it’s a power move for property owners.
Florida lawmakers passed it unanimously. Which, let’s be real, might be more shocking than the squatters.

Around Town
Wait… Florida Has Waterfalls?

So apparently, Florida has waterfalls. Actual, cascading, photogenic waterfalls. Not just your leaky backyard hose, not just your uncle’s broken A/C unit dripping on the porch — we’re talking legit, mist-in-your-face, “pack-a-snack-and-hike-it” waterfalls.
We were just as surprised as you.
Most people think of Florida as one long beach party with a few gators, a dozen Publix subs, and a sunburned tourist named Gary. But deep in the wilds of the Sunshine State lie ten secret-ish waterfalls — hidden in forests, parks, and places that sound suspiciously made up (looking at you, “Boonie Falls”).
There’s one in Gainesville that plunges into a 120-foot sinkhole (because of course it does), one in Chipley that claims to be the tallest in the state at 73 feet (we’re not fact-checking, just nodding), and even one with rapids in White Springs where only experienced kayakers dare go. If you’re less of a thrill-seeker and more of a picnic-eater, there are also adorable trickles like Steinhatchee Falls, known as the “baby waterfall,” which is frankly adorable branding.
Here’s the thing: most of these waterfalls require effort. Hiking. Sweat. Leaving your phone’s signal range. And yes, possibly encountering a squirrel with boundary issues. But if you’re willing to trade your screen time for scenic time, Florida’s got a few cool surprises waiting for you — and they’re not just limited to the water bottle aisle at Costco.
So if you're looking for an adventure, some mild cardio, and a perfect excuse to post a "nature girl era" Instagram reel, this might be your moment. Just don’t expect any dramatic plunges like you’d see in the Pacific Northwest. This is Florida. Our waterfalls are like our state motto: a little weird, mostly flat, but strangely lovable.
Now go forth and chase those waterfalls. Ignore what TLC told you. Just bring bug spray and maybe a towel.
