In a move that felt more like a breakup text than a business decision, a Riverview daycare center abruptly closed its doors, sending parents into a full-blown scramble just days before the new school year.
Families received the unexpected news via email, no heads-up, no warning, just a “we’re done, good luck.” For working parents already juggling car lines, summer camp schedules, and the annual back-to-school shoe hunt, it was the kind of news that hits harder than a preschooler on a sugar rush.
The center, once considered a staple in the community, cited "unforeseen circumstances" and left many wondering what those were—and more importantly, how they were supposed to find safe, affordable care with zero notice.
It’s a tough reminder that childcare is still one of the most fragile systems in our communities, especially in fast-growing areas like Brandon and Riverview. And while Hillsborough County is investigating, parents are left asking the same question: How does something this big just disappear overnight?

Himes Breakfast House Is Serving Up More Than Just Pancakes
One of Tampa’s fastest-growing breakfast spots is making big moves. Himes Breakfast House, which first launched on Himes Avenue back in 2021, has already made itself at home in Brandon, and now they’re heading to Riverview next.
The Brandon location opened earlier this year at 312 E. Brandon Blvd., dishing out hearty portions of scratch-made breakfast and lunch favorites from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Next up? A brand-new spot in Winthrop Plaza (11220 Sullivan St.), opening mid-July.
Whether you're into fluffy pancakes, loaded omelets, or just a solid cup of coffee in a chill setting, Himes is bringing the goods. Local, fast, and friendly, exactly how we like it.
