Breast Cancer Awareness Month

If you’ve got loved ones, friends, or neighbors in the Brandon area, you may have noticed more pink ribbons around town this month. That’s because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s about much more than just the color. It’s about action. According to the latest data, roughly 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

Here in our community, the message couldn’t be more local: know what’s normal for your body, check regularly, and don’t wait to speak up if something changes. Breast cancer is highly treatable when caught early, a fact health experts keep pointing to when they stress screenings, self-aware living, and doctor visits.

And yes, men can get breast cancer too. Though less common, it doesn’t mean it’s off the table. Spread the word. Check the people in your home: your dad, your brother, your partner. Awareness alone isn’t enough unless it leads to action. Because every appointment and every check-in adds more time doing what we love, barbecue on the porch, little league games, nights out with friends, right here in the Brandon community.
