🔥 Brandon Sizzles: Heat Soars, Health Risks Spike

Ok, we know it’s hot. But when the heat index hits 110°F and up, we’re not just sweating, we’re stepping into dangerous territory.
Local hospitals are reporting an uptick in heat-related illnesses like dizziness, nausea, confusion, and even heat stroke. Folks working outside, landscapers, delivery drivers, and construction crews, are especially at risk, and the symptoms can escalate fast.
To help, Hillsborough County has opened cooling centers at public libraries, parks, and community centers. These are free, air-conditioned spots with cold water, shaded seating, and clean restrooms. In other words, relief.
Here’s how to stay safe:
Hydrate early and often—don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
Avoid outdoor activity during peak hours (11am–4pm)
Take breaks in the shade or AC if you’re working outside
Check on elderly neighbors or anyone without reliable cooling
Let’s all keep an eye on each other and take the heat seriously, because no one wants to end their afternoon barbecue in the ER.

🏅Shuffleboard Showdowns & Pickleball Glory

If you’re 50 or better and still have that competitive spark or just want to meet new people and maybe dominate a game of horseshoes, this one’s for you.
The 2025 Active Life Games run Sept. 29 to Oct. 10, and registration is officially open. Events include everything from track and field to pickleball, billiards, shuffleboard, golf, and more, so whether you're a seasoned athlete or just really good at trash talk during table tennis, there’s something for you.
💸 Cost: $25 for one event or $35 for unlimited, plus $35 for golf (cart included—because let’s be real, we’re not walking 18 holes).
🎉 The fun kicks off with opening ceremonies Sept. 29 at Barksdale Senior Center and wraps up Oct. 10 at the Victor Crist Community Center.
Oh, and it’s also a regional qualifier for the Florida Senior Games—so yes, your shot at glory (and a medal) is very real.
