When Batteries Go Bad
A local garage fire highlights the risks hiding behind everyday chargers.

If your home is packed with modern tech, this is one of those stories worth slowing down for. A recent house fire in Dade City was caused by malfunctioning lithium-ion batteries stored in a garage, according to Pasco County Fire Rescue. No one was hurt, but it’s a good reminder that the batteries powering our daily lives can also create serious problems when things go wrong. Somewhere, Elon probably felt a small disturbance in the force.
Officials haven’t said which specific device sparked the fire. Still, as a Tesla owner, lithium-ion battery stories always get my attention. That said, this isn’t just an electric vehicle issue. These batteries are everywhere. Phones, laptops, tablets, power tools, electric bikes, scooters, backup battery packs, and plenty of devices quietly charging in garages across the Brandon area all rely on the same technology.
Most of the time, lithium-ion batteries are safe. Issues usually show up when batteries are damaged, overheated, charged incorrectly, or stored in tight spaces near flammable materials. In other words, that cluttered garage isn’t just annoying anymore. It can become a real risk. And on that note, we do know a girl. Square One Garage Solutions.
Fire officials recommend a few simple habits that can make a big difference. Use manufacturer-approved chargers. Unplug devices once they’re fully charged. Avoid charging batteries in cramped or cluttered areas. Replace any battery that looks swollen or feels unusually hot. If a battery starts acting strange, it’s not being dramatic. It’s sending a warning.
The good news is that fires like this are often preventable. A few small changes in how and where devices are charged can help keep Brandon homes safer. With enough to worry about already, battery safety is one thing we can stay ahead of.

Your Roof Doesn’t Make Noise… Until It Does
Roofs have a way of doing their job quietly until they suddenly don’t. One day, everything looks fine. Next, you’ve got buckets spread across your living room like you’re playing tic-tac-toe.
In Florida, roofs take a beating. Heat. Rain. Wind. Storms that show up whenever they feel like it. Small issues can sit unnoticed for months, then turn into expensive surprises when the weather lines up just right.
That’s where local partner American Roof Pros comes in.
They help homeowners stay ahead of problems with inspections and straightforward guidance. Their focus isn’t pushing a new roof before it’s needed. It’s helping homeowners understand the actual condition of their roof and what makes sense to address now versus what can wait.
They care enough about educating homeowners that they even created a podcast dedicated to roof maintenance, storm prep, and avoiding costly mistakes. It’s packed with practical tips to help Brandon homeowners protect what’s overhead and keep more money in their pockets.
