A Costly Spill

About 32 million gallons of partially treated wastewater spilled at the Falkenburg Road Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. The plant is back online while officials investigate whether an industrial chemical dump triggered the overflow.

What the bill could include: emergency response and cleanup, possible DEP fines, equipment repairs and added security, and—if a private dumper is identified—cost recovery efforts.
